Testing: The Fine Print and How to Read it

As students across the country start studying for testing season, it's important to understand the terms and conditions that come with standardized tests. To avoid any hiccups on hopefully an aced test, here are some tips and need-to-knows while testing!

1. Test Security

Test security refers to the measures put in place to ensure the integrity of the testing process. This includes rules against cheating, such as not looking at another student's test or using unauthorized materials. For most tests, if you are simply SUSPECTED to not be following the rules that keep its integrity, your test score may be invalidated.

2. Testing Accommodations

Students with disabilities or other special needs may be eligible for testing accommodations. These accommodations could include extra time, a separate testing room, or the use of assistive technology. If you believe you qualify for testing accommodations, make sure to start the application process early to ensure everything is in place for your test date. To receive accommodations, students typically need to provide documentation of their needs.

3. Testing Regulations

Each testing organization has its own set of regulations that students must follow. This could include rules about what items are allowed in the testing room, how to mark answers on the answer sheet, and how to handle breaks during the test. One universal rule is no electronic devices that can access the internet, so you always want to make sure your phone is off and put away. 4. Test Security Breaches
