It is crucial that young adults stay informed on both local and global news topics. Gen Z is the future of the world, and many are – or are turning – 18, and can participate in elections. Since our newsletter is based in Miami, Florida, we’ll be starting a new monthly segment where we give the run-down of what is new globally, nationally, and locally!
This week we will be covering some recent local news:
Curfews:
March 15, 2024 through March 18, 2024, 11:59 p.m-6 a.m., a curfew is in place for that area of the city bounded by 23 Street and Dade Boulevard on the north, Government Cut on the south, Biscayne Bay on the west, and the Atlantic Ocean on the east.
Businesses within bounds of this area must close with enough advance of the curfew so customers will not violate the emergency measures.
Does not apply to delivery services , emergency services, or those traveling to and from work.
Increased security:
Public safety officers will patrol the curfew area to make sure no individual or business is violating the curfew
Prohibiting alcohol sales:
No business will be able to sell alcohol during the curfew time
DUI checkpoints:
along the 400 block of Fifth Street
Raised fees and parking:
Towing fees increased to $516 for non-residents
Parking enforcements will increase
parking fees will increase to a flat rate of $100
With these rules in place, local gov and law enforcement hope to ease the effect of spring breakers and their shenanigans. Miami residents hope that this year, March will be a bit calmer. But as always, be safe, and make sure you know your rights!
